Voice Elements Benchmarks performed on 26 May 2016

The following table displays the results of port density tests with various configuration options. These tests were performed with full active phone calls between two Virtual Machines (VM) running on two hosts. The host machines were identical and the Hyper-V VM configurations were identical. All tests except for the one noted were done using Juniper EX-2200 switches (2 EX-2200 as a Virtual Chassis) (Software REV 12.3R11.2). The router/firewall test was done using 2 clustered Juniper SRX240H2 routers. (Software REV 12.1X46-D35.1) There were no lost packets on the devices on any of the tests.

The measurement of effectiveness is the jitter observed using wireshark captures on both sides. We also listened to a live phone call during the tests so we could hear any jitter / skips. All tests would be acceptable for live phone calls.

The following is the spec that we used for HOST systems:

  • SuperMicro SYS-6028R-TRT
  • Two Intel Xeon CPU E5-2640 @ 2.60GHz, 8 cores, 16 Logical Cores
  • 64 GB Physical Memory (RAM)
  • Windows Server 2012 R2 Datacenter (Build 6.3.9600) (x64)
  • Intel X540-AT2 NIC (1 Gbps connection)
  • 12TB Disk space (Four 4TB drives in RAID 5)

The following is the spec for the Hyper-V VM used in the test:

  • 4GB RAM
  • 4 Virtual Processors
  • Network Adapter with SR-IOV enabled
  • Hard Disk configured for 60GB
